Bert Teunissen

Bert Teunissen's "Domestic Landscapes" are the most striking of these i've seen. They are all portraits, but accurately described as landscapes because although the people are so immediately striking, you find yourself inspecting everything else in the photograph...the spaces of these people. He has done this project in 9 countries and it is wonderful to see the similarities in peoples homes of the same culture, and then to find the eccentricities of each individual home. Some of them almost look like the same place just changed around a little and with a different person...i wonder if it is or if they are just really that similar? I find myself wanting most of the furniture in every picture (most likely because I own very little furniture since i've settled in new york and i crave it) and the tile and the linens and everything! I really connect with these pictures in an almost fantasy-like way, however real they are. Here's a few of his beautiful pictures.

i'm ralph ballerstadt's newest fan...it seems his idea of photography is the same as mine...this image is in his romance series, which is the most perfect word to describe so many of his images...the lighting and the solitude of this photograph is so romantic
he has a statement on his website that explains everything i ever wanted to say about my photography...
"We might think there is no picture left that hasn't been taken yet. However, the challenge seeing ordinary things anew is exactly what keeps me going."
Amazing
i'm so glad i found someone who could put into words what i've been trying to say for so long (i'm not lyrically gifted!)
